B.C. Pauses PST Expansion to Accounting Services

Earlier this month, the Province of British Columbia announced plans to expand the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) to accounting and bookkeeping services, with the change scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026.

The Province has since announced a change to that plan.

On September 18, 2026, the B.C. government announced that it is pausing the expansion of PST to professional services. This means the previously announced 7% PST on accounting and bookkeeping services will not take effect on October 1, 2026.

What Does This Mean?

For now, accounting and bookkeeping services will continue to be exempt from B.C. PST.

The Province has indicated that the expansion is being delayed in response to ongoing international trade disruptions and economic uncertainty. No new effective date has been announced.

For businesses and individuals who use accounting and bookkeeping services, this means there is no need to prepare for the additional 7% PST that had been expected to begin October 1.

What Happens Next?

The PST expansion has been paused rather than cancelled. The Province may introduce the change at a later date, but there is currently no new implementation date.

We will continue to follow developments and update this article if further information is announced.
